actually a producer named "Swizz Beatz" approached metallica and asked them if they'd be interested...

what he did is just took samples of some of the new material that metallica is working on, and independantly (without Metallica's knowledge) produced that monstrosity of a song. Metallica didn't even see Ja Rule through the entire making of the song.

so if you wanna blame anyone, blame Swizz Beatz

hmm ya I heard about this a long while back, I was mad but I only listen to the old Metallica anyways.

i live in CT, where one of our "new rock" DJs holed himself up in the studio for like 20 hours playing nothing but Metallica, in protest to hearing the new song with Ja Rule. then he got Lars on the phone and Lars told him to chill, because this guy was seriously overreacting, as i think a lot of "rockers" are. i wont deny the s---tiness of the song: Ja Rule is a terrible lyricist, the guitars are nothing new (why not just cover "sad but true" andr rap over it?), and the Swizz Beats production is bland. but i dont think the status of these 2 artists is brought down in any way for working together (not like they exactly collaborated, Swizz took the material, gave it to Ja and that was that) and to have people flip out over it is ignorant.

hip hop gets no respect on these boards, i can tell you that much

well I mean, it is kind of the end of the road for Metallica, you gotta admit, that song for Mission Impossible 2 stunk. Besides, they're trying to do something new! Too bad they went way in the wrong direction.
