Headaches From Musicians Friend

Just want to know what others have experienced from Musicians Friend.
Three Weeks ago I placed an order with them. After a couple of days I had no shipping confirmation on it so I took this as a heads up that something was snagging up the shipping. I e-mailed them and got back the message that my order was being processed and should ship in the next 24 hours. In 24 hours I still had no shipping confirmation. I e-mailed them again and got the same message
This went on for two weeks, with several phone calls mixed in. Finally the tird customer service rep stubled upon the information that my credit card had been getting rejected for the past two weeks. A situation that I could have fixed with one phone call except that I wasn't being told about it.
I was then told that the order had shipped the day before. I was given a U.P.S. tracking number. When I tried to track the package through U.P.S. I kept getting the message that they couldn't find that number. this went on for three or four days along woth anoouther long list of messages to Musicians Friend. Eventually Musicians Friend sent me anouther shipping confirmation with with a different tracking number as well as a different order number. This seemed strange, I tried tracking both numbers and both came back blank for the next couple of days. Finally U.P.S. started tracking the first number and my package arrived nearly three weeks after I ordered it.
What has your experience been with Musicians Friend as far as shipment of orders. They are a great Company, Great prices, but I'm relectant to place orders with them when I can't get problems straightened out.

I haven't had any trouble with them, but I don't use them often either. The only trouble I ever had was when they sent the wrong set of strings, and that was corrected with a quick phone call. I didn't even have to send back the wrong set. I've never had the courage to get any big ticket items from them though.

It sounds to me like Musicians Friend might be getting too popular. In past years I've heard nothing but praise for their customer service, but lately I've been hearing alot of complaints.

they did the same thing to me, except it was a set of Elixir 12-string acoustics (like $25) i ordered and they gave me some crappy $3 electric strings. I called them and they made me haul my a-- to the post office to mail it to them.

A fellow from ActiveBass had just a dreadful experience with them last summer . . . ordered an Ashdown amp that was on sale, when he got it, it went "phffff" after about 15 minutes of play . . . tried to return it . . . huge nightmare . . . he finally got it replaced but it took about 2 months and MANY nasty emails and phone calls.

My guess is to steer clear of their sale items . . . everyone will want one and their on-line "instock" listing seems to be a great big lie.

Too bad, especially since they're one of the featured sponsors of this site (check the left frame on the home page). You think they'd give better service when there are so many folks here ready to give feedback about them.

It seemed to me that the whole place is ran by a computer that just spews out what you would want to hear."IN STOCK","YOUR ORDER IS BEING PROCESSED AND WILL BE SHIPPED IN 24 HOURS" etc. but getting a real person that actually can find out anything is nearly impossible.

I've never had any problems with them. I've used them and other mail order places regularly. But I would never use them for guitars, amps or blem electronics. Just new electronics and smaller stuff.

But the best thing about MF is that they are who GC refers you to as their 'online partner', so if I see something at MF for x dollars and go to GC and it's more, I just tell 'em at GC and they'll match or go better. I get a discount at both places, so I just play one against the other, often :-)

I tried this once with a local sound company. they wouldn't touch MF's price. that's my biggest lure in placing any other orders with them. they have great prices and I've never had problems with there products. All my orders have been right once they get here. It's just frustrating when they keep comong off like everything is fine when it's not.

I know what you mean. That's usually when I turn away from a company. OR I learn how they're really inefficient and learn to work around their ignorance, like who's boss to talk with.

Steve, I know what MF is but who is GC. don't know that many suppliers etc. to match a name to that one.
