Any single note may be the root, third, fifth, seventh, ninth, or 11th. Plus the 4 types of chords, and altered tones, that are put in the mix = sus 2,sus4, b5, b9, #9.
There are some 30 different chords named, that will have the same common note, in their structure, in this lesson.
In the string sets, mentioned in earlier lessons, a specific note is used as a reference point.
In this lesson string set #3, strings 3, 4, and 5, are used. This involves confining the top note of any chord to the 3rd string.
In some instances the enharmonic equivalent, given, is enclosed in brackets as a secondary name.
The first half of this lesson will keep F as its top note on the 3rd string.
The note F is the root of the following chords, F major, F minor, F augmented, and F diminished chords.
The note F is expressed as the 3rd of the Db major and Db augmented chords. The note F is also expressed as the 3rd of the chord in the D minor and D diminished chords.
The note F is the sus 2 in the Eb sus2 chord......The note F is the sus 4 in the C sus 4 and Cm sus4 chords.
The note F is the b5 of the B major and B minor chords...... The note F is the 5th of the Bb major and Bb minor chords.
The note F is the 5th of the B diminished chord.... The note F(E#) is the 5th of the A augmented chord.
The note F is the 6th of the Ab6 or Abm6 chord....The note F is the minor seventh of the G7 or Gm7 chord
The note F is the major 7th interval of the Gbmaj7 or the Gbm maj7 chord
The note F is the b9 of the E7b9 chord. The note F is the 9th of the Eb9 chord. The note F is the raised 9th of the Ebb9(D9) chord.
The note F is the 11th of the C chord and the Cm chord. The note E#(F) is the augmented 11th of the Baug11th chord.
