Chord style playing of a melody, on the guitar, requires knowledge of all chords, inversions, voicings, smooth fingering changes, and excellent control of right and left hand coordination. In short, a guitarist that is a musician who knows his craft.

Frequently the melody, is harmonized with three tones of a chord, using one of the four basic string sets, or string combinations

Set 1 = strings 1, 2, 3

Set 2 = strings 2, 3, 4

Set 3 = strings 3, 4, 5.

Set 4 = strings 4, 5, 6

Other possible string combinations

Strings 1, 2, 4

1, 2, 5

1, 3, 4

1, 3, 5

2, 3, 5

2, 4, 5

2, 4, 6

and any other combinations you can think of.

On the subsequent pages set #1 will be used first. Examples of harmonizations, using one specific note for a melodic note, will be given first.
