Up to now everything weve been doing has been a MAJOR chord. Now we will get into MINOR chords. The difference between the two is that a major chord sounds happy and is used in songs that are meant to be happy for the most part. MINOR chords have a sort of sad sound to them, a GREAT use of these chords is for emo. Okay, so lets see how to do a MINOR barre chord on the E string.

Notice how my 2nd finger doesnt need to be used at all in this chord, just the first finger as the bar across the 3rd fret. and my 3rd and 4th fingers on the 5th fret.

Try playing these two and try to tell which ones minor and which is major:
