First and foremost. What is a turnaround(TA)? Simply put, a turnaround is a one or two measure cadence or chord progression that cmes at the end of a section of music which takes you back to the beginning of a song. I tell all my students, if you ever get lost in a song, especially for the fast, up-tempo tunes, to lay out and listen for the turnaround and then pick up from there. So there's a friendly tip to all. There are two types of TA's that'll I'll deal with: Turnaround to the "I" Chord and the Turnaround to the "II" Chord. You'll see that all rules of chord embellishments, substitutions etc all apply to your turnarounds which leads itself to something quite extraordinary!
