Cross Picking Chords

Pages: 1 2

This lesson combines a couple of past lessons. You get to harmonize a scale, in this case a major scale. Two- you get the ear workout that I always SCREAM about. (Get it). Instead of strumming the chords now you pick the notes of the chord. Separte the notes of the chord and now you get the arpeggio workout you long and crave for! LOL. You also get to experiment with other string group chords: (2-3-4-6), (2-3-4-5), (3-4-5-6) etc. The examples below are demonstrated using the (1-2-3-4) string group and in the key of "C". There are multiple possibilities of cross picking so be encouraged to stretch out a bit. Check out the possibilities: (U-D-U-D), (D-U-D-U), (U-U-U-U), (D-D-D-D). You can also experiment with tonalities of the chords. The examples are only models and utilizes seventh chords. Experiment with added tones, extensions, and alterations. You'll be playing like the Police, Parkening, Joe Pass, Yes, or even Rush in no time. Good Luck! I will update with more patterns.
