So how can you learn to play these different types of note values? Below is an exercise where we trade off playing 8th notes and then 8th note triplets, first on the high A, and then on the low A. Measure 1 is all 8th notes. Measure 2 is all 8th notes triplets. Mms. 3-4 repeat this but on the low A. In mms. 5-6, we play each type for half a measure. In mms. 7-8, we switch every beat.
