Maid Of Athens

Rowan Chisholm (1708) · [archive]
Style: Bluegrass · Level: Beginner · Tempo: 120
Pages: 1 2 3

This is a tune for a reel, a dance similar to square dance. Since it is a dance, it needs to be played at a lively tempo and at a very even rhythm.

Play this part twice and then go on to the second strain on the next page.

It was originally written in cut time, which is played with two chords per measure as shown in the grove below.

If you would rather play it a little slower, and in 4/4 time, an alternate chord pattern is to play 4 chords per measure: D G A D, D D G G, D D G G, D D A D, D D G A, D D G G, D D G G, D D A D.
