Mixing Single Notes & Power Chords
Up until now, our examples have consisted solely of power chords. However, we don't have to limit ourself to just this. We can combine single notes with our power chords.

Not only that, but we can also employ the same right-hand techniques that we used with power chords: we can either palm-mute the single notes or let them ring. Here's an example that uses muted single-notes combined with ringing power chords. Remember to use only downstrokes. Also, note how every 8th note has something happening in it, whether it's a single note or chord. This helps the riff chug along and create its own rhythm.
