Here is what I hope will be a fairly painless chord lesson.

When you start playing chords on the guitar, you pretty much learn standard "stock" chord voicings like this one:
Em
This is a great chord, but let's reduce it to it's bare essentials.

It is an Em chord, and this tells us a lot about what it is made of. (everything we need to know, actually).
