16th note grooves are the foundation for funk, and are used in many other types of music. This lesson will get you started with the basics.
Quarter notes are divided into four 16th notes. They are counted as 1, e, +, a (one, ee, and, ah). The first sequence shows an E9 chord accented on a different 16th note in each bar. Concentrate on keeping your picking hand loose and consistent. The only difference between the accents and the scratches in between is that your fretting hand holds the chord down for a moment on the accent. When practicing, always use a metronome or a drum machine.
