First we'll start with the different types of picking that you can do...
Alternate, Sweep Picking, and Circular Picking.
Alternate picking is where the picking motion alternates (duh). That meaning a up, down, up, down, up, down etc. or down, up, down, up, down, up etc. picking motion. It's pretty simple, but it gets a little complex when you start switching strings....
After Alternate Picking, I will do Sweep Picking (Sometimes called economy picking) when you do sweep picking you simply use it when switching strings (see lesson page).
And finally after Sweep Picking, we have Circular picking, It's a little odd but it sounds really good.
Circular picking works the best with single note melodies. Circular picking minimizes the wrist movement, so that you can get the most speed out of your picking...
