What is this 'Punk'
Punk is a type of modern rock in which there is little complication. It is very easy. I can not even read music but i play a pretty good lead punk rock guitar. The hardest part is changing the chords in the fast tempos but if you start slow and work fast than you can get it pretty easily. It has a lot of distortion. That means when you get good and if you want to continue, buy an amplifier with a LOT of gain. It is normally 3 or 4 chord riffs with power chords to fill in space. Basically, if you know your guitar basics, then you will do o.k. with this lesson. The main thing to remember about punk is that it is mainly an attitude. It is about going against the grain and doing your own thing. You can be trendy only if you actually like the trend, not because it is trendy. Remember to always be yourself you can always be a punk. lol
Who are some cool punk/ska bands that i can be influenced by because they have cool music and they play the same genre that i have interest in?
Their are many punk/ska bands. Some of these bands are(including the post punk grunge explosion of the early 90s):

- Green Day(my personal favorite)

- etc., etc., etc.
Study these bands' music. They each contributed different tinks to punk. If you can play stuff by these bands then you are doing pretty good.
Ok, I shall leave you with a riff to play. Its the whole main riff to 'Brain Stew' by Green Day. It is extremely easy. It will teach you how easy some punk is. Not all Green Day music is so easy. Keep that in mind. Learn to play this so that you can jump around and do all sorts off craziness when you play. 1 third of being a good punk rock player is putting on a good show.
