Welcome back. This part of the MATRIX lessons will seek to further clarify what we are doing with it as well as a look at the scalular side of things.

Often, when playing a song, there will be some chord change/choice that momentarily steps outside of the key of the piece to create tension that resolves when the tonic is returned to.

There are many pieces that do not which are purely diatonic and very beautiful, but most offer some momentary escape from the main mode or sound that is being developed.> Let's take a look at some common examples:
