Using minor 7 chords can help add some spice to your playing. If you're tired of simply strumming major and minor chords, the minor 7 chord is a good substitute for regular minor chords. I think the sound they impart is kind of folky or jazzy, as minor 7ths are often found in these types of music.
Listen to the example below. Straight minor chords are used in mms. 1-4, while minor 7ths take over in mms. 5-8. I think the latter half of the progression is a bit "softer" due to the minor 7ths. |
