As I said before, the Am7 is very similar to the A minor chord, and the fingerings are especially similar when we use the open string voicing for each:

Am7

 

 


The main difference is the 3rd string, where we play an A on the 2nd fret for the Am chord, and an open G for the Am7 chord. The effect is subtle but effective. Listen to the example below to hear the difference.
