In a similar vein, we don't have to use voicings on the middle 4 strings. We can extend it up to the top 4 strings for some higher comping. With all of these different types of voicings, the best changes are the ones which require the least amount of movement. In the example below, an E9 is used for the E7, and an A13 is used for the A7. Note how there are only two notes that are different between the two chords, and these notes move only one fret.
