Will knowing all of this stuff actually help you in the middle of a song? Probobly not, at least not directly. "So why learn it?" You may ask. Playing guitar is easier if you understand the nature of it's organizaation. A lesson of this type is similiar to what you would cover in a college level "Fretboard Harmony" class. Knowing all of this stuff should help you in a basic understanding of music theory, and may help you memorize chord shapes. It is important that you internalise all of it, so you can recall it instantly.
