Hybrid Picking Excercise

By far the easiest way to play this cool ascending run is to use Hybrid Picking. This is when you use your plectrum and the fingers on your right hand to pick the different notes allowing much more speed and versatility.

Here are the notes to use your middle and ring fingers on:

First Bar - the second and fourth notes are picked with your middle and ring fingers...the others are picked with your plectrum.

Second Bar - middle finger is used on notes 3,5,9 and 11. the ring finger is used on notes 6 and 12. All other notes with plectrum.

Third and Fourth Bars - Just use the plectrum here..it's pretty straight forward.

Remember to start off slow. This is normally played at 188 beats per minute..Try playing it that fast using only your pick!!! If you need more proof on the advantage of using hybrid picking, try to get a listen to Menage:The Beak/The Claw. Written by Jerry Reed and Jerry Donahue on the album Return of the Hellecasters. It will blow you away!!!

'till next time....
