You may have noticed many of these songs are the same length. 32 bar songs (a song that is 32 measures long) are probobly the most common type of song in the Western world. They provide enough repetition of the theme to make it memorable, but with room enough for variation in the middle. Another common song form is the blues, which consists of mostly of 12 bars and can be in a major or minor key.

Cole Porter wrote several tunes of unusual length, he generall stretched the 32 bar form out into longer shapes.
