SCALES IN SIXTHS

Here are several exercises that will greatly improve your pick hand and fret hand coordination.
Use a metronome to practice these exercises. They can also be used to improve your knowledge of scales and the fretboard and be incorproated into the warmup exercises in lesson
Warmup and Practice at the Same Time
For beginners start very slowly and concentrate as always on good tone and proper technique.
Begin each exercise by playing one note to each beat and then as you become familiar with the fingering of the notes go to 1/8th notes or two notes per beat.
To improve your fretboard and scale knowledge, say each note as you play it and look at your position on the fretboard.
The illustration here is with the C scale but remember to play it in all scales and all positions. The best workout for both your brain and your fingers is in something other than the open position so the illustration here will use C scale in other positions up the neck. See the lesson on
