We can also use our Dsus4 chord for nice fingerpicked stuff. If we originally were going to fingerpick a D major chord, we can play a Dsus4 before it and then the D major to give the tune some interest. Here's an example of this concept that reminds me a bit of "More Than A Feeling" by Boston. In the 1st and 2rd measures, we fingerpick the 4 notes of our Dsus4 chord, and then resolve it to our regular D major chord in the second half of the measure:
