One way to improvise convincing jazz lines is to place the 3rds and sevenths of each respective chord in a prominent location.
In other words, the 3rds and sevenths will define your jazz lines.
We will look at the major scale, and it's cousin, the bebop scale, which is a solution to keep the stronger tones (3rds and 7ths) in the right place.
Of course, arpeggios are always an option, but developing melodic material strictly from arpeggios is not really possible. In the "real world", you will likely want to include both scalar and arpeggio ideas in your playing. |
