Learning Scales And The Fretboard

Some people have trouble learning scales in the box patterns and connecting them, or learning full neck patterns. This is very common. A few of my students have this trouble. And so far this method of teaching them, has really helped them. As well as me. The first thing I stress to a student after I have shown them a few chords and some very basic theory, is learning the fretboard. Besides ear training, I feel that this is the most important thing to learn becasue it builds a good foundation and allows ability to move around the neck, and do the high fast gymnastics up and down the fretboard, when it comes time to solo or riff later on in their musical voyage.
