The middle and ring fingers pluck together on beats two and three. The last note can be omitted changing the count from 1 & 2 & 3 - to -1 & 2 & 3 &

This is true of most of these patterns and can be useful to give a slight variation, when using the same pattern throughout a song and can also be useful to give a little more time on a difficult chord change.
