Slides are a great mechanism for moving laterally along the fingerboard. We can change what position we're in by simply sliding up or down to the next position. In the example below, we're still using our D minor pentatonic scale, and we use a slide on every other string to change our current positition on the neck. Mms. 1-3 show this concept for an ascending scale where up slides are performed by our 3rd finger, while mms 4-6 show it for a descending scale where our down slides are performed by our 1st finger.
