Here's a look at just the bass line from the first page. If you had a hard time with the previous page just try to concentrate on the bass line alone in this example until you feel able to combine it with the chords. If you don't play with a pick (or if you use a thumb pick) then your thumb should be playing these notes. If you do play with a pick then you should use it to strike these notes and then strum the chord.

As always feel free to decrease the tempo to a place that feels good for you. There's no use in playing fast if you can't play evenly. Speed comes with patience and practice. It will take care of itself... If you want to hear a player who uses this kind of bass line/chord pattern combination really well take a listen to Chet Atkins.(Even if you don't care at all, still listen to Chet Atkins!) He is a master of this technique.
