Only 3 dim scales

There are only 3 diminished scales. They are:
  • Cdim
  • Dbdim
  • Ddim
The construction of this scale is alternating whole steps and half steps. Eg: C dim scale:

C D Eb F Gb Ab A B C

Notice that by using the notes C, Eb, Gb or A, wich are all a minor 3rd apart, as starting points, we have the C dim scale starting on different pitches. Therefore, the C dim scale provide us with 3 other diminished scales:
  • Eb dim
  • Gb dim
  • A dim

The Db dim scale will give us:
  • Db dim
  • E dim
  • G dim
  • Bb dim

The D dim scale give us:
  • D dim
  • F dim
  • Ab dim
  • B dim
