Many times there will be a section in a piece of music that stays on the tonic chord for a long time, such as C, or G, or any other chord. The moving voice may be used to create movement but remaining on the same chord. Using C, Cmaj7, C6, to C again, and then reverse the order, creates movement on the basic C chord.
