Now let's take that sequence again but this time turn the Dm7 into a Dm7b5.

In this case you can use the melodic minor over it, which for this chord would be F melodic minor. Now it blends in nicely.

Tip: The right melodic minor is the same note as the 3rd of the m7b5 chord.
