Play the 1st bit nice and fast, with some crunchy distortion, then repeat the up-beat part (ie: the verse) for a few times clean. Add some reverb or delay and continue to play at this speed if you want it to sound spooky but without slowing the song down at all. This type of contrast will make a song much more enjoyable to play and listen to. Enjoy!
