Now we have the 16th note pattern under our hands, now its time to look at the left hand. The percussive muting that's prevelent in funk guitar is not created by the right hand but by the left hand or fingers (right hand if you are a lefty). Lifting up on the fretted note(s) creates this dampening or muting effect giving this style of playing its distinctive sound. Below shows this so again try the 16th note patterns and this time incorporate the muting effect. Remember lifting the pressure of the fretted hand.
