To begin learning the 16th note rhythm its essential to grab a metronome and set it to a slow tempo. It's important to get the feeling of where the beat is at because later you'll see in a number of patterns, how percussive funk guitar can become. Below is just a basic 4 groups of 16th note pattern. Play through it slowly and then increase the tempo maintaining alternate picking (D,U,D,U). Also, there should be an accent on the beats, thus an emphasis on your downstroke on each of the beats.
