The Red Hot Chili Peppers

This is a transcription book covering the entire span of the Peppers (minus their two latest albums). Good book, really explains what Flea does in the Pepper tracks, explaining the theory behind his playing and how it interacts with the rest of the band. Provides some of the history of the band and comes equipped with a CD that has the music in it. HOWEVER, the songs in the book are not complete, they are just fragments of songs.

Transcription/Instructional book with a CD. The CD contains audio to go along with everything tabbed out. A whole lot of songs from my favorite band, very well written, and very helpfull.

This book contains basslines from the RHCP albums Freaky Styley, The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, Mother's Milk, Bloodsugarsexmagic, One Hot Minute; the songs covered are Jungle Man, Fight Like a Brave, Behind the Sun, Higher Ground, Subway to Venus, Knock me Down, Breaking the Girl, Give it Away, Under the Bridge, Aeroplane, My Friends, and Love Rollercoaster. Note that only the main parts of each song are covered; some parts have to be figured out individually. The book comes with a CD, in which all of the examples are played. It also contains desciptions of the techniques Flea used in the songs. There are also small sections giving the basic history of the Chili Peppers.

This book is good for anyone who likes the RHCP and Flea, but is not very familiar with his basslines. The explanaitions of the techniques may not be enough to teach them to somebody who has no idea how to do them, but they give helpful pointers for people who already have an idea. The CD is one of the weak points of the book: Although it is nice to be able to hear the lines before attempting to play them, the CD wold have been much better if only the basslines were recorded. Instead, the author chose to include the drums and guitar aswell. It is fairly easy to hear Flea on the original recordings, so the CD, in the present format, is not very useful, since the orignials can be used just as well. However, I do realize that not everybody has all of the records and internet access (to download the songs from KaZaa...), so the CD is much more helpful to people without the originals.

Needless to say, the material in the book is amazing. Flea is deservingly considered one of the best bass players in contemporary music. If you are not very familiar with Flea, this is a great book to learn some of his style.

The book and CD package costs $22.95, which is not cheap. However, I recommend it to anyone who wants to get an overview of Flea's playing without immersing themselves completely (read: buying all of the flea books out there). CBass

CD inclusion rocked. The only complaint i have (and this isnt much anyway)is that the variations arent included. although this has allowed my creativity and Bass grimoire to become greatly used. amazingly accurate, specially for someone so bombastic. Aeroplane, one of my all time faves, is almost perfect from what i can hear. My slap has improved incrediably. i can almost predict what hes gonna do next. ALMOST. hes flea you never know whats coming

This is the best bass book i've ever bought. not only is it interesting and informative, but it also obviously includes bass transcriptions in exact detail to 12 songs off of BloodSugarSexMagik, the Uplift Mofo Part Plan, Mother's Milk, and One Hot Minute. i've just had it for like 12 hours, but it has already added a lot to my style, interests, overall bass playing, and i can even slap a lot better than i could last night! it is crazy! you MUST purchase this book... if it cost $300, i think it'd still be worth it!
