This is a progression of variations on a sweet blues move that John Lee Hooker made popular. You'll find various forms of these moves in 2 of his best-known ditties, "Dimples" and "Boom Boom".
The move itself is simple enough, it's a good exercise for working on your pull-off to an open string. For those of you who aren't experts in the hammer-pull thing yet, when you pull off you may want to try to pluck the string a little with the finger you're lifting (i.e. on your fretting hand) to get more volume.
Here's how the move (as presented in bars 1-2) goes: first, do a bend on the 4th fret of the 3rd string (an alternative in bars 3-4 is a slide up to the 4th fret of the 3rd string). Then pull off to the open string (alternately, play 3rd fret of 2nd string as in bars 5-6). Then play the 2nd fret of the same string and pull off to the open string again. Then move down one string and play the 2nd fret of your 4th string (this is an E) and pull of to the open string again before closing with the E again. Bars 3-4 and 5-6 are only minor variations on this move. Bars 7-10 continue to work on your pulls but I think the tab more or less speaks for itself... |
