A few weeks ago, Sean and I were in Manny's checking out the Line 6 amps (sorry, Mark, we had a little GAS), and I saw him noodling around with an interesting power chord progression where he mixed some open strings with the usual voicings. So, last night I started noodling around with this concept and came up with this little tune. I basically started playing power chords at different root notes, and then stopped fretting the bottom note, letting it ring open. I found that if I played a C# power chord and dropped the C# on the 6th string to an open E, I got an E Major 6, and if I dropped the bottom Ab in an Ab power chord, I got an E major 7. So I wrote a tune with them in it. The dropped C# appears in mms. 1, 3, 5, 7 and the dropped Ab appears in mms. 9-12. There's also a droning upper guitar part in the 2nd sequence to fill out the tune. |
